To direct the day-to-day functions of the Aides/Orderlies and nursing staff, as well as give direct nursing care to patientsThis position is also responsible for planning, organizing, developing and directing the overall operation of education programs for facility staff in accordance with current existing federal, state and local standards, and established policies and procedures of the facilityDescription of Required Duties and Tasks:
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:
Direct the day-to-day functions of nursing aides and nursing staffGive direct nursing care to patientsVisit all assigned patients at regular intervals during tour of dutySupervise feeding of patients as necessaryNotify physician when patient's condition warrantsPerform administrative duties, such as documenting of:
Nurses' notes Doctors' orders Discharge plans Dietary changes Reports Evaluations Studies Billing and other charge slips Miscellaneous forms, charts, etcChart pertinent facts and information in a professional, clear and comprehensive mannerAdmit, transfer and discharge patients according to policyRecognize and respond to changes in patients' conditions and document observations, interventions and outcomesOrder from pharmacy, prepare and administer medications as ordered by physicianEnsure that physicians sign off on all verbal orders and document processConduct and/or monitor prescribed treatments, such as dressing changes, drawing of blood, catheter changes, NG tube insertion and removal, laboratory work, etcGive and receive condition report from the on-coming and off-going shiftPerform emergency procedures, such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and in the event of death, notify family and appropriate other partiesRecognize, intervene and report accidents and incidents when they occurMonitor and update care plans on each shift as appropriateMaintain records of patient accidents and incidents and provide in-services to reduce accidents and incidentsAttend and participate in monthly and quarterly infection control, safety and quality assurance meetingsRecognize, intervene and report accidents and incidents when they occurParticipate in surveys made by authorized government agenciesSupervise and participate in fire safety and other disaster drills and be prepared to carry out duties in the event on an actual eventRecognize, intervene and/or report complaints and grievances from patients, families, visitors and employeesMonitor the facility for possible health and safety hazardsMaintain privacy and confidentiality of records, conditions and other information relating to patients, employees and facilityFollow the established universal precautions and isolation proceduresEncourage an atmosphere of optimism, warmth and interest in patients' personal and health care needsMeet or exceed the dress code of the facility as specified in the Employee Handbook, which includes neat, clean, odor-free grooming and dressRequired Skills:
o Update daily census report and submit as requiredo Attend and participate in orientation programs, on-going training and educational classeso Inventory and request equipment, supplies, etco Assist in updates of written policies and procedures of routine nursing careo Participate in surveys made by authorized government agencieso Admit, transfer and discharge patientso Monitor and participate in daily clean-up of the nurses' stationo Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisorExperience Preferred 1 year(s):
